Nintendo isn't offering discounts since this remains fundamentally the original Switch title. Players must pay full price for the base game plus a $10 premium for Switch 2 enhancements - a pricing strategy that feels somewhat excessive.
Standalone Upgrade Option Available
This bundle includes both the original Switch game and Switch 2 enhancements. Current owners of Breath of the Wild can purchase just the upgrade pack separately for $10, saving them from rebuying the full game.
Free Upgrade for Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Members
Subscribers to Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack who already own Breath of the Wild receive the Switch 2 upgrade at no additional cost as part of their membership benefits. This provides welcome relief amid Nintendo's otherwise aggressive monetization strategy for its new console launch.
What Does This Edition Include?
This package combines the complete original Switch version with visual and performance enhancements optimized for Switch 2 hardware - including improved frame rates, faster loading, higher resolutions, and upgraded textures. Essentially, it delivers the definitive way to experience Breath of the Wild. From our original review: "The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild stands as a masterpiece of open-world design that revitalized a three-decade-old franchise. Its sprawling sandbox teems with discoveries, constantly presenting players with intriguing mysteries begging to be uncovered. Countless emergent adventures arise naturally, each with its own unique backstory before discoveries even occur. Even after 50+ hours exploring Hyrule's furthest reaches, surprising new encounters still emerge - ensuring I'll happily invest another 50-100 hours uncovering its hidden wonders."
