11 Bit Studios Draws Parallels Between This War of Mine and The Alters

Polish developer 11 Bit Studios has released a new trailer for their upcoming sci-fi adventure, The Alters, highlighting its connection to their critically acclaimed title, This War of Mine. This latest trailer reflects on the studio's journey, showcasing the evolution from the bleak survival of This War of Mine to the more vibrant, humorous narrative of The Alters.

While This War of Mine is renowned for its stark depiction of wartime survival, The Alters offers a contrasting, passionate, and often humorous story centered around alternate versions of protagonist Jan Dolski. Despite these tonal differences, the developers underscore a fundamental thematic link between the two games.

Both games explore the core concept of survival, albeit in vastly different contexts. In This War of Mine, players grapple with the brutal realities of war, meticulously managing resources and facing daily challenges to keep their civilian group alive within a besieged city. In contrast, The Alters presents survival as a frantic race against time, demanding players constantly relocate their mobile base to escape a relentless, dust-inducing sun.

Both titles challenge players to step outside their comfort zones, venturing into hostile environments to secure scarce resources. The key distinction lies in the protagonists: This War of Mine guides players through the experiences of a group of random civilians, while The Alters features a unique team composed of alternate versions of the main character, promising a fresh and intriguing dynamic.

The Alters is slated for release in 2025 on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. It will be available on Xbox Game Pass and PC Game Pass on launch day.
