Atari's 50th Anniversary Celebration Expands with 39 More Classic Games

Atari, a video game pioneer, is bringing back its acclaimed Atari 50: The Anniversary Celebration with a significant expansion. This "Extended Edition," launching later this year, will add a whopping 39 classic Atari titles to its already impressive roster of over 90 retro games. This demonstrates Atari's continued commitment to its legacy while also actively shaping the modern gaming landscape through publishing deals (like Rollercoaster Tycoon 3) and franchise revivals (Yars Rising).

The original Atari 50: The Anniversary Celebration, released in 2022, featured games spanning from the Atari 2600 to the Atari Jaguar, including remastered versions of beloved titles. It also included a comprehensive interactive timeline documenting Atari's history.

The October 25th release of the Extended Edition will significantly enhance this experience. Beyond the 39 new games, two additional timelines are being added: "The Wider World of Atari" and "The First Console War."

"The Wider World of Atari" will showcase Atari's lasting influence through 19 playable games and eight video segments featuring new interviews, vintage ads, and historical artifacts, meticulously curated by Digital Eclipse.

"The First Console War" will delve into the iconic rivalry between the Atari 2600 and Intellivision, covering the early 1980s through 20 playable games and six video segments. This timeline will highlight the competition that ultimately saw Atari's initial triumph, later overshadowed by the 1983 video game crash.

While the specific titles included in the expansion remain undisclosed, Atari has confirmed a deep dive into Berzerk, alongside lesser-known late-80s games and fan favorites from Mattel's M Network.

A physical release for Nintendo Switch and PS5 is also planned. The Switch version will include a special Steelbook with bonus items such as Atari 2600 art cards, miniature arcade marquee signs, and a replica business card. The physical edition will retail for $49.99, while the standard digital version will cost $39.99. The Extended Edition will be available on all major consoles and the Atari VCS.
