The Last of Us Will Probably Run for 4 Seasons, HBO Exec Says

By VioletFeb 28,2025

HBO's critically acclaimed The Last of Us series is slated for a four-season run, according to an executive.

Francesca Orsi of HBO indicated that a four-season arc is the current projection for the hit show, though she emphasized that no definitive plan is finalized. "While I can't confirm it definitively, it's looking like this season, plus two more, and then we're done," Orsi told Deadline.

Regarding the highly anticipated Season 2 premiere in April 2025, Orsi hinted at the introduction of compelling factions: "Certain elements, particularly the various factions vying for survival, will be revealed. They're a truly fascinating survivalist group, distinct in their presentation." She added, "Their wardrobe and makeup significantly differentiate them from average characters."

There's still time to catch up before Season 2's April premiere. Unlike Season 1, which adapted the first game completely, Season 2 will expand upon The Last of Us Part II over multiple episodes, utilizing a "natural breakpoint" after seven episodes.

Season 2 will feature several new cast members, including Kaitlyn Dever as Abby, Danny Ramirez as Manny, and Tati Gabrielle as Mel. Catherine O'Hara's role remains undisclosed.

IGN's review of The Last of Us Season 1 lauded the show as "a stunning adaptation that will captivate newcomers and enrich the experience for those familiar with Joel and Ellie's journey," earning a 9/10 rating.
