The cards we're showcasing today are part of the "Through the Ages" bonus sheet included in the larger main set. These are reprints of existing Magic: The Gathering cards, now adorned with concept art and characters from various Final Fantasy games. While these cards don't introduce new mechanics or unique gameplay elements like those featured in recent reveals or the Commander decks, they do celebrate the rich history of Final Fantasy, with art dating back to the first game in the series.

Unlike the cards in the main set, the Through the Ages cards do not become legal in Magic's Standard format (although they are if the original card was already legal there). These cards serve as alternate art versions, adding a unique flair without altering gameplay mechanics. They can be found in both the premium Collector Boosters and one in every three of the regular Play Boosters, which are essential for Limited events like Draft and Sealed.

If you plan to dive into this set at your local game store or digitally on platforms like Magic: The Gathering Arena, you'll encounter these cards frequently. Five of the six cards are Rares, making them less common, but Thrum of the Vestige, an Uncommon, is a reskin of the iconic Lightning Bolt. This particular version is likely to have a significant impact on the set.

PlayThe Warrior of Light reprint of Jodah, the Unifier is expected to be highly sought after. Jodah is a powerful and popular Commander, and the art, sourced from Yoshitaka Amano's work on the original Final Fantasy's Japanese boxart, adds to its allure. Similarly, Amano's iconic artwork for Final Fantasy 4's Cecil Harvey has been reimagined for Tymna the Weaver, a formidable partner commander that has been reprinted only once before.

These cards will launch physically as part of the broader Final Fantasy set on June 13, with digital versions becoming available on MTG Arena and MTGO on June 10. Even if you're a Final Fantasy fan new to Magic, there's plenty to be excited about, especially with Tetsuya Nomura, the director of the FF7 Remake series, hinting at a mysterious design choice for Sephiroth's card.
