Assassin's Creed Shadows Streams Early, a Month Before Release

By ZoeyJul 15,2025

Assassin’s Creed Shadows has made an unexpected early appearance online, with gameplay footage now surfacing via multiple Twitch streams just a month ahead of its official release. As first reported by the GamingLeaksandRumours subreddit, previously available social media posts showcased images and gameplay from what appeared to be a copy of the game purchased through an unauthorized online marketplace.

Further evidence of the leak emerged when listings for Assassin’s Creed Shadows briefly appeared—and were later deleted—on a U.S.-based auction site. One seller reportedly offered several copies of the game at $100 each, according to TheGamer. While many of the streamed clips have since been taken down (as noted by VGC), the leak has already created a buzz across gaming communities.

The game is scheduled for official release on March 20, 2025, and IGN has reached out to Ubisoft for comment regarding the situation.

For Ubisoft, this leak comes amid a string of challenges surrounding the development and promotion of Assassin’s Creed Shadows. Despite these setbacks, the publisher recently confirmed that preorders are performing well, drawing comparisons to the success of *Assassin’s Creed Odyssey*, which ranks as the second most successful title in the franchise.

Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot expressed confidence in the game's potential: “Early previews have been positive, praising its narrative and immersive experience, with both characters playing critical roles in the game’s storyline, as well as the quality and complementarity of the gameplay provided by the dual protagonist approach.”

He also acknowledged the hard work of the development team: “I want to commend the incredible talent and dedication of the entire Assassin’s Creed team, who is working tirelessly to ensure that Shadows delivers on the promise of what is the franchise’s most ambitious entry yet.”

Originally slated for a November 2024 launch, the game was first delayed to February 14, 2025, and then pushed again to its current release date of March 20, 2025. With high expectations, Assassin’s Creed Shadows not only marks the franchise’s return after a four-year gap but also represents a crucial opportunity for Ubisoft to regain investor trust following a string of recent disappointments.

Unfortunately, the promotional journey hasn’t gone smoothly. The development team issued public apologies for historical inaccuracies in the depiction of Japan and for using a recreated historical group’s flag without permission. Adding to the controversy, collectible figure maker PureArts pulled an Assassin’s Creed Shadows statue from sale due to concerns over its "insensitive" design.

With so much riding on its performance, all eyes will be on Assassin’s Creed Shadows when it finally launches next year.
