Images have surfaced online allegedly showing ASUS' Xbox-branded handheld, internally codenamed Project Kennan.
As initially reported by 91mobiles and picked up by Eurogamer, two photos depicting differently colored versions of what appears to be the ASUS ROG Ally 2—one white and one black—were reportedly published through Indonesian certification channels before being removed. These were linked to (now seemingly deleted) FCC filings in the U.S.
Design Details Emerge
Both models feature Xbox-style button layouts (Y, B, A, X) rather than PlayStation or Nintendo configurations. Notably, the black variant displays a distinct Xbox button placement to the left of its thumbstick, though curiously missing the characteristic 'X' logo. Technical specifications remain unclear regarding performance differences between the two color variants.
Windows Central's Jez Corden indicates these devices are currently undergoing open testing at Microsoft's headquarters, suggesting a potential unveiling around May 20.

Official Teasers Surface
ASUS' Republic of Gamers account recently teased concept imagery showing both an Xbox controller and handheld device. Xbox's official response—posting a wide-eyed reaction GIF—further fueled speculation about an impending announcement.
This development aligns with earlier IGN reports about Microsoft's hardware roadmap, including plans for both a next-generation Xbox console (projected for 2027) and an Xbox-branded handheld potentially launching later this year.
Microsoft's Hardware Horizon
While this particular device represents a third-party collaboration, Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer has confirmed internal development of proprietary handheld hardware—though this reportedly remains years from release.
Concurrent reports indicate Microsoft's next-gen Xbox console has entered full production, scheduled for a 2026/2027 launch window. This timeline matches Xbox president Sarah Bond's recent statements about delivering "the biggest technological leap ever in a generation."
