Conquer the Iconic Battle of Hulao Gate in Dynasty Warriors: Origins

The Battle of Hulao Gate, a legendary clash in the Dynasty Warriors series, presents a formidable challenge in Dynasty Warriors: Origins. This guide will help you overcome this crucial stage in Chapter 2. The objective: defeat Dong Zhuo.

Initial Strategy:

Begin by clearing the four enemy bases in the map's bottom right corner. Conquering two triggers a cutscene introducing mounted cavalry. Continue your base-clearing strategy; defeating Zhang Liao, the cavalry commander, rewards you with the twin pike weapon.

Once all bases are secured, assault Hulao Gate. This initiates a chaotic battle. Your priority is protecting Cao Cao until he unleashes his Grand Tactic, weakening the enemy defenses.

Lu Bu's Intervention:

Dong Zhuo deploys Lu Bu. Avoid direct confrontation. Lu Bu is overwhelmingly powerful. Instead, focus on eliminating peripheral officers to maintain morale, which Lu Bu significantly drains.

Lu Bu will eventually attack your main base (Yuan Shao). Resist the urge to pursue him. Liu Bei's forces will defend, giving you time to defeat Dong Zhuo. This creates a time constraint; if Liu Bei's forces are routed, Lu Bu will defeat Yuan Shao, ending the mission.

Defeating Dong Zhuo:

After Lu Bu's departure, resupply at a conquered base if needed. Capture the northern and western bases. With three squads ready and your health replenished, charge towards Dong Zhuo's forces.

Dong Zhuo will employ Grand Tactics (fireball attacks). Destroy the initial two catapults to counter his first attack. Musou Rage is highly recommended here. Break through enemy lines to reach the catapults.

His second Grand Tactic requires defeating an officer. Proceed to the right-hand stairs; however, be prepared for an ambush by Diaochan, now fighting for Dong Zhuo. A duel with Diaochan is advantageous, though challenging.

After disabling the second Grand Tactic, Dong Zhuo will be vulnerable. Your forces, boosted by morale and possibly Dian Wei's Grand Tactic, should easily overwhelm his remaining forces. Defeat Dong Zhuo to complete the mission.
