The excitement around Bloodborne has surged once again following its appearance in PlayStation's 30th anniversary video. Dive into the latest buzz about the game and the newest PS5 update.

PlayStation 30th Anniversary Ends with a Bang

Ending the Anniversary Trailer with Bloodborne

The PlayStation 30th anniversary trailer ended on a high note with a feature of the beloved PS4 exclusive, Bloodborne, accompanied by the phrase, "It's about persistence." While the video also showcased other iconic titles such as Ghost of Tsushima, God of War, and Helldivers 2, it was Bloodborne that sparked the most speculation among fans, who are eagerly anticipating a remaster or sequel.

Set to a creative cover of "Dreams" by The Cranberries, the trailer highlighted PlayStation's most cherished games, each accompanied by a thematic caption. For instance, Final Fantasy 7 was labeled "It's about fantasy," and Resident Evil as "It's about fear." Bloodborne's closing segment, with its "It's about persistence" tagline, fueled speculation about potential new releases, despite no concrete information being released before or after the trailer.

The fervor around Bloodborne isn't new. On August 17, PlayStation Italia's Instagram post featuring iconic game locations similarly stirred excitement, though no official announcement followed. While the trailer's ending might simply celebrate Bloodborne as one of PlayStation's most challenging games, fans remain hopeful for updates.

To mark PlayStation's 30th anniversary, Sony rolled out a new PS5 update, introducing a limited-time PS1 boot-up sequence and customizable themes inspired by past consoles. This update features themes ranging from the 30th Anniversary to PS1 through PS4, allowing fans to immerse themselves in nostalgia.

PS5 users can now tailor their home screen's design and sound effects to emulate previous consoles. After installing the update, navigate to the PS5's Settings, select "PlayStation 30th Anniversary," and then choose "Appearance and Sound" to customize your home screen according to your favorite PS console.

The update has been well-received by fans, particularly for bringing back elements of the PS4's user interface. However, the temporary nature of these features has left some wishing for a permanent option, with speculation that Sony might be testing the waters for future full-scale UI customization options.

Sony Developing a New Handheld Console

The speculation didn't stop at the PS5 update. On December 2, Digital Foundry confirmed Bloomberg's earlier report about Sony's development of a new handheld console for PS5 games, aiming to enter the market currently dominated by the Nintendo Switch.

John Linneman, Senior Staff Writer at Digital Foundry, noted, "We actually heard about this handheld some months ago from a couple of sources specifically... It’s interesting that this finally, sort of, started to make its rounds because it just sort of confirmed what we had seen and heard off the record."

The panel also discussed the strategic move by both Microsoft and Sony into the portable gaming space, acknowledging the growing trend of smartphone gaming. While Microsoft has been more open about their interest in handheld gaming, Sony remains quiet on the matter. It may be years before we see these new devices, as they need to balance affordability with superior graphics to compete effectively with Nintendo.
