The future of The Wheel of Time adaptation appears bleak following Amazon's decision to cancel the Prime Video series after Season 3, coupled with reports indicating no active efforts to find it a new streaming home. Brandon Sanderson, who completed Robert Jordan's epic book series, has openly criticized the decision-makers behind the show's termination.
Prime Video's choice not to renew for Season 4 came after extended internal discussions, according to Deadline. While executives reportedly appreciated the series, financial viability ultimately proved insurmountable.
Based on Robert Jordan's beloved fantasy novels and starring Rosamund Pike, The Wheel of Time faced initial backlash from book fans over creative liberties in its first two seasons. However, Season 3 successfully won over much of its audience, setting the stage for what many believed would be even stronger future installments.
The production costs ultimately became prohibitive for co-producers Sony Pictures TV and Amazon MGM Studios - the latter also responsible for the high-budget Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power.

Sanderson shared his perspective in comments on his YouTube channel: "I wasn't meaningfully involved in these decisions. Like everyone else, I learned about the cancellation through news reports after two months of silence following initial discussions about contract renegotiations.
"It's particularly disappointing because Season 3 represented significant improvement. The dedicated fanbase deserved better than this abrupt ending. While I won't miss being largely excluded from creative decisions, I recognize how frustrating this must be for viewers."
