Camper Waits Outside San Francisco Nintendo Store for Switch 2 Before Opening

By SebastianMay 12,2025

The excitement for the Nintendo Switch 2 is palpable, as evidenced by the dedication of at least one enthusiast already camping out at the new Nintendo Store in San Francisco—a store that won't even open its doors until May 15. YouTube personality Super Cafe documented his journey in a video released on April 8, detailing his over 800-mile flight to San Francisco with the goal of being first in line on the west coast for both the store's opening and the highly anticipated release of the Nintendo Switch 2.

Super Cafe, who has only recently moved into his apartment, admitted that his decision to camp out for two months might not be the wisest financially. However, his enthusiasm for being the first to get his hands on the new console is undeterred. "I've only lived in my apartment for two months. I like, just moved out," he said. "Terrible financial decision on my end. Whatever, who cares."

This isn't the first instance of such dedication; another YouTube content creator is similarly waiting outside the New York Nintendo store. Super Cafe, mostly camping solo, has even invited others interested in joining him at the San Francisco location to get in touch. As for the logistics of his extended stay, such as accommodations, food, and showers, he plans to address these in a future Q&A.

The tradition of camping out for major Nintendo releases, particularly new consoles, has a long history. Now, with dedicated campers at both coastal Nintendo stores, it remains to be seen if this will spark a trend of others joining the line. Super Cafe's commitment highlights the fervor surrounding the Nintendo Switch 2, set to launch on June 5, 2025.

For those not keen on camping out, our guides on Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders offer alternative ways to secure the console, though ongoing tariffs in the United States add a layer of complexity to the situation.
