How to Capture Monsters in Monster Hunter Wilds

Mastering Monster Capture in Monster Hunter Wilds

While battling monsters is thrilling, capturing them is crucial for obtaining valuable parts. This guide outlines the process of capturing monsters in Monster Hunter Wilds.

The Capture Process:

The method is straightforward: weaken the monster, trap it, and then use tranquilizer items to secure the capture.

Your Palico will alert you when a monster is weakened. Other indicators include a skull icon above the monster on your minimap, and noticeable signs of distress like limping or excessive drooling.

Once weakened, deploy a Shock Trap or Pitfall Trap. Lure the monster onto the trap. Once trapped, quickly throw Tranq Bombs. Usually one or two will suffice. Alternatively, craft Tranq Ammo or Tranq Blades, depending on your weapon and preferred playstyle.

Successfully capturing a monster ends the quest and returns you to Base Camp.

Obtaining Traps and Tranquilizer Items:

While your Palico may occasionally set traps, it's advisable to carry your own. Two trap types exist: Pitfall Traps and Shock Traps.

  • Pitfall Trap: Requires a Trap Tool and a Net (Spiderwebs or Ivy).
  • Shock Trap: Requires a Trap Tool and a Thunderbug Capacitor.

Tranquilizer items can be crafted:

  • Tranq Bomb: Crafted using a Sleep Herb and a Parashroom.
  • Tranq Ammo/Tranq Blades: Combine Tranq Bombs with Throwing Knives (for Blades) or Normal Ammo (for Ammo).
