CD Projekt Red has officially announced that Ciri will take center stage in the highly anticipated The Witcher 4, marking a significant shift in the series' narrative. According to executive producer Malgorzata Mitrega, this transition from Geralt to Ciri is a natural evolution of the game series, deeply rooted in the rich tapestry of Andrzej Sapkowski's original works.
Mitrega explained that with Geralt's storyline reaching its conclusion in The Witcher 3, the spotlight now turns to Ciri, whose character offers immense potential for new storytelling avenues. Ciri, extensively developed in both the books and previous games, possesses a depth and complexity that opens up a myriad of creative possibilities for the developers. Director Sebastian Kalemba highlighted that Ciri's younger age provides players with greater freedom to shape her character, a flexibility not available with the more established Geralt.
The decision to shift the protagonist to Ciri has been in the works for nearly a decade, underscoring CD Projekt Red's long-term vision of Ciri as Geralt's successor. Kalemba further elaborated that the fresh challenges and perspectives Ciri faces will lay the groundwork for an epic new saga within the Witcher universe.
Doug Cockle, the voice behind Geralt, has expressed his support for this pivotal change, praising Ciri's potential as the new central character. While Geralt will still make an appearance in The Witcher 4, he will no longer be the main focus, thereby reinforcing the shift in narrative perspective.
