Firaxis Games Postpones First In-Game Event for Civilization 7
Civilization 7 Focusing on Quality of Life Improvements
Civilization 7 (Civ 7) has decided to delay its first in-game event to prioritize essential quality-of-life improvements. In a development update posted on February 28, 2025, Firaxis Games shared their roadmap, highlighting upcoming enhancements for Civ 7.
Scheduled for release on March 4, 2025, across PC and consoles (with a different timeline for Nintendo Switch), Update 1.1.0 was initially set to introduce the "Natural Wonder Battle" event. However, Firaxis Games announced, "Although our first in-game Event, Natural Wonder Battle, was originally planned for Update 1.1.0 on March 4, events are now being postponed to a later update to allow us more time to prioritize quality-of-life improvements for players worldwide. We’ll share more details about the first in-game event once we’re ready."
Since its early access launch, Civ 7 has received mixed reviews, particularly concerning its user interface (UI). Acknowledging this feedback, Firaxis Games stated, "We are aware of and looking into feedback on the game's UI." They further emphasized, "We're continuing to make improvements to Civilization 7, and appreciate you taking the time to drop your feedback."
Update 1.1.0 Will Address Community Feedback
The forthcoming Update 1.1.0 for Civ 7 will tackle community feedback head-on. While a comprehensive list of patch notes will be released closer to the update date, Firaxis Games has outlined key changes.
Players can look forward to exploring a new natural wonder, the Bermuda Triangle, at no extra cost. The much-anticipated UI adjustments will address player concerns and improve the overall experience. Additionally, significant updates to the Modern Age’s Cultural Legacy Path and Victory will enhance AI leaders' performance in achieving a Cultural Victory.
Simultaneously, the first half of the paid Crossroads of the World Collection will be released. Firaxis Games confirmed, "Players who own either of those editions, or have purchased the Crossroads of the World Collection separately, will receive this content automatically with Update 1.1.0."
Next Major Update Slated for March 25, 2025
The next significant update for Civ 7 is scheduled for March 25, 2025, though this date remains tentative. The update will continue to focus on enhancing the game's UI, as Firaxis Games stated, "Ongoing improvements to the User Interface continues to be a top priority for the development team. The updates being introduced on March 25 are just one part of a much larger plan that aims to improve the UI over the next several months."
Looking beyond March, Civ 7 plans to introduce a series of improvements and refinements, including a "one more turn" feature to extend gameplay past the Modern Age, auto-explore functionality, new map sizes for PC and consoles (excluding Switch), enhancements in multiplayer support, and more.
Firaxis Games emphasized, "We’re in the process of scoping the work necessary to bring these priorities to the game as soon as we can. Some of these will be delivered as early as April (subject to change), though many will take longer to develop, test, and deploy. As always in development, plans can change and we'll have more details to share here in the weeks and months ahead as plans solidify. We appreciate your continued patience in the meantime!"
