Confront Wakasa or Otama in Assassin's Creed Shadows: What to Choose?

By ChloeMar 26,2025

In Assassin’s Creed Shadows, the decision to confront either Wakasa or Otama after the tea ceremony in the mission "The Tea Ceremony" carries significant consequences that affect the rest of the campaign. While both characters may arouse suspicion, the optimal choice for a smoother and more straightforward quest progression is to confront Wakasa.

After the tea ceremony, you should confront Wakasa, as she is revealed to be the Golden Teppo of the Onryo. Confronting her leads to a simpler resolution of the mission. Upon confronting Wakasa, she invites Naoe to her home for a private discussion. Once inside, you'll notice the kasa (straw hat) she wore during the prologue as the Onryo, confirming your suspicions. This leads to a straightforward conclusion where Naoe can quickly end the mission by taking Wakasa's Teppo from the wall and shooting her at point-blank range.

What If You Confront Otama in Assassin’s Creed Shadows?

Choosing to confront Otama after the tea ceremony will still allow you to kill Wakasa, but it complicates the mission significantly. If you mistakenly target Otama, Naoe will chase and kill her, only to find a letter revealing Otama's corruption. However, this allows Wakasa to escape and fortify herself in Osaka Castle.

To confront Wakasa after this choice, you must travel to Osaka Castle, where you'll face a stealth and combat challenge against her soldiers. Even if you've unlocked the Osaka Tenshu fast travel point, you'll still encounter standard enemies. A stealthy approach might get you close to Wakasa, but you'll need to engage in a one-on-one battle to finish her off. While the boss fight isn't overly difficult, confronting Wakasa directly from the start is far less cumbersome and more cinematically satisfying, especially considering her role in Naoe’s father's death.

Now that you know the best decision to make after the Tea Ceremony mission, you can also learn how to gain XP and level up quickly in Assassin’s Creed Shadows to prepare for the game's tougher challenges. Additionally, discover how to efficiently earn more Knowledge Points, which will help you unlock more skills for Naoe and Yasuke.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows is available now on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
