In a delightful break from the usual news cycle of tariffs and Nintendo Switch 2 pricing, IGN had the chance to dive into the fun world of Mario Kart at a recent Nintendo event in New York. The highlight? The newly introduced Moo Moo Meadows Cow as a playable character in Mario Kart World, who, intriguingly, can indulge in a variety of foods, including burgers and steak.
For those out of the loop, Mario Kart World recently made waves with the announcement of the Cow as a racer, sparking joy and creativity across the internet with countless memes and fanart. Previously just a charming background character from the Moo Moo Meadows track, Cow has now taken center stage.
However, the reveal also stirred a unique curiosity among fans. In the Nintendo Direct 2 trailer, Mario was seen enjoying a burger, raising questions about whether Cow, whose kind might be the source of such meat, would partake in similar fare. The internet buzzed with this culinary conundrum.
At the Nintendo event, IGN confirmed that food items from Yoshi's diner locations across the courses are indeed available for racers to grab, much like item boxes. These include an assortment of dishes like burgers, steak kebabs, pizza, and donuts. And yes, Cow can eat them all.
Interestingly, while other characters undergo costume changes upon consuming these foods, Cow showed no such transformation. This leaves us pondering whether she's simply savoring these meals for pleasure, or if there's an unrevealed power-up at play. Are these perhaps veggie burgers or plant-based kebabs?
IGN reached out to Nintendo for clarification but has yet to receive a response. We're guessing they're preoccupied with the New York event, rather than sidestepping our, ahem, pressing inquiry.
