Cyberpunk 2077 to Use 25% of Switch 2's Storage

CD Projekt Red has officially announced that the install size for Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition on the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 will be 64GB. This is notably smaller than the versions for Xbox and PS5, which require 100-110GB. However, on the Switch 2, 64GB represents a significant 25% of the console's total 256GB internal storage.

Set to launch alongside the Switch 2 on June 5, Cyberpunk 2077 will be available both as a physical 64GB game card and as a digital download from the Nintendo eShop. Unlike some new Switch 2 game cards, which will contain only a download key, Cyberpunk 2077's physical version will include the full game.

The Switch 2's 256GB of internal storage is a substantial upgrade from the original Switch's 32GB. Yet, with games like Cyberpunk 2077 taking up 64GB, and other anticipated titles like the $80 Mario Kart World expected to require even more space, it's clear that the internal storage could fill up quickly.

To address this, expandable storage will be essential. While the original Switch supported standard microSD, microSDHC, and microSDXC cards, the Switch 2 will require the newer, more expensive microSD Express cards. This means that existing microSD cards won't be compatible, and users will need to invest in new storage solutions.

1$99.99 at AmazonIGN's deals team has already found the best prices on Switch 2-compatible microSD Express cards, ranging from 128GB ($44.99), 256GB ($59.99), 512GB ($99.99), to 1TB ($199.99) options from SanDisk and Lexar. However, some of these are already in high demand and listed as "temporarily out of stock" on Amazon.

Nintendo is collaborating with SanDisk and Samsung to offer branded microSD Express cards, which are expected to be pricier than third-party equivalents. As the Switch 2 increases demand, more manufacturers might enter the microSD Express market, though it's uncertain if this will lead to lower prices.
