The Witcher 4 Beta Test Invite Scam
CD Projekt Red Issues Warning
The developers of The Witcher 4, CD Projekt Red, have issued an urgent warning to fans about a widespread beta test invite scam. On April 16, the studio took to The Witcher’s official Twitter (X) to alert the community about fraudulent beta test invitations circulating online.
The statement from CD Projekt Red was clear: "We've been taking the necessary steps to take this fraudulent messaging down. If you receive any invites to or stumble upon news of one, we kindly ask you to report the scam using the tools available to you in your email client or the social media platform you are using."
They emphasized that any future beta tests would be announced exclusively through The Witcher’s official channels.
First Revealed in December 2024
The Witcher 4 made headlines during the Game Awards in December 2024 with its announcement and a captivating trailer showcasing Ciri as the protagonist. This marked a significant shift from the previous games, where Geralt held the spotlight.
Following the reveal, VGC conducted an interview with The Witcher 4 Narrative Director Phillipp Weber, who addressed the community's reaction to Ciri taking the lead role. Weber shared his understanding of the fans' attachment to Geralt but reassured them that the team was committed to making Ciri's journey compelling and worthwhile.
Weber stated, "The best thing that we can do, and I think this is really our goal, is to prove that with Ciri, we can do a lot of interesting things so we can really make it worth it because this decision to have Ciri as a protagonist wasn’t made yesterday, we started making this a very long time ago."
The Witcher 4 Executive Producer, Małgorzata Mitręga, expressed appreciation for the fans' support and their passion for the series. "Everyone has the right to have an opinion, and we do believe it comes from the passion for our games and I think the best answer for that will be the game itself when the game is released," Mitręga noted.
The developers are set to make The Witcher 4 the most ambitious entry in the series, introducing new regions and monsters. The game is slated for release on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, though a specific release date has yet to be announced.
