Diablo 4 and Path of Exile 2 Devs Won’t Say Whether They’ll Ban Elon Musk for Account Boosting

Elon Musk's alleged cheating in Diablo 4 and Path of Exile 2 has sparked controversy, with fans questioning the integrity of the games and the developers' response. Screenshots of a private conversation reveal Musk's admission to paying for account boosting, a violation of both games' terms of service.

Account boosting, where players pay for others to level up their accounts, is a clear breach of rules. Blizzard's EULA explicitly prohibits this practice. Despite this, and following public outcry, both Blizzard Entertainment and Grinding Gear Games have remained silent on whether they will ban Musk's accounts.

Players have expressed their disappointment and concerns on official forums, questioning the fairness of the game and the apparent lack of consequences for high-profile individuals. One Path of Exile player stated, "So now billionaires can buy their way to the top...this is a massive blow to the credibility of RMT enforcement." Similar sentiments echoed on Battle.net.

Both developers declined to comment on individual player actions or enforcement, leaving the situation unresolved. Musk, who previously boasted about his gaming skills and high rankings, now faces accusations of dishonesty. His claims of top-tier performance were already under scrutiny due to his demanding schedule and apparent lack of in-game knowledge demonstrated in a livestream.

A video revealed a direct message conversation where Musk admitted to account boosting, claiming it was necessary to compete with Asian players. He later clarified that he never claimed personal credit for high-level achievements, stating that top rankings often require multiple players. Musk's ex-partner, Grimes, offered a defense, citing personal observations of his gaming skills.

Further allegations emerged when Musk's Path of Exile 2 character appeared active while he was in Washington D.C. for Trump's inauguration, adding fuel to the controversy. The lack of response from the game developers has left many questioning the fairness and integrity of their games' competitive environments.
