Funcom, the developer behind the eagerly anticipated Dune: Awakening, has provided an exciting update on the game's business model and post-launch plans. Set for a full launch on May 20, the game will not enter Early Access, ensuring players can dive into the full experience from day one. Inspired by Frank Herbert's iconic sci-fi novel and its movie adaptations, Dune: Awakening is a multiplayer survival game that promises an expansive world to explore and conquer.
Contrary to what one might expect from an MMO, Dune: Awakening will not require a subscription. Instead, Funcom has committed to a "classic business model" that involves free updates and optional DLCs. This approach mirrors the successful strategy used for their other titles such as Anarchy Online and Conan Exiles, which continue to receive free updates, DLCs, and expansions long after their initial release. Funcom assures that Dune: Awakening will follow suit, with continuous enhancements and new content.
Priced at $49.99, the standard edition of Dune: Awakening offers a robust entry point into the game. For those seeking more, the Deluxe Edition at $69.99 and the Ultimate Edition at $89.99 provide additional perks. These include a five-day head start and unique items. The Deluxe and Ultimate Editions come with a Season Pass that grants access to four DLCs, with the first available at launch. The Deluxe Edition also includes the Sardaukar armor, an elite military outfit that players encounter in the game. Meanwhile, the Ultimate Edition packs in Paul Atreides' stillsuit from the 2021 film, a digital artbook, a digital soundtrack, unique color patterns, and the Caladan Palace Set complete with building pieces, placeables, and decorations.
Pre-ordering any edition rewards players with a universal color pattern for vehicles, weapons, and armor, along with the Terrarium of Muad'Dib, an in-base decoration featuring the iconic desert mouse.
