EA Sports FC 25 Gameplay Gets Major Overhaul

Electronic Arts' football simulation games frequently face criticism. The issues extend beyond monetization, as their technical performance is also often called into question.

The feedback for EA Sports FC 25 became so pronounced that the developers took action, releasing a "Gameplay Refresh Update." This substantial patch introduces over 50 adjustments to core game mechanics, including:

Major overhauls to fundamental systems like assisted controls, shooting, goalkeeper AI, and defensive tactics.Situations where defenders effortlessly caught up to attacking players have been addressed for better balance.Attacking gameplay now feels more fluid, allowing for smoother ball movement and build-up play. The AI's propensity for performing last-ditch tackles and interceptions has been toned down. The overpowering effectiveness of crossing plays has been significantly reigned in.Players now demonstrate better positional awareness and offer more intelligent support in their preferred roles.Offside detection has been refined, particularly for AI-controlled players making forward runs.Slightly increased the accuracy of regular and finesse shots taken under low pressure from outside the box.

At launch, only 36% of the 474 player reviews for EA FC 25 were positive, mirroring the predominantly negative reception from early critics. Players have heavily criticized Electronic Arts' perceived aggressive monetization, the game's numerous bugs and instability, and its persistent issues with recognizing PlayStation controllers.

Furthermore, the game's anti-cheat software makes it incompatible with the Steam Deck.
