Instead of passively awaiting the release of the co-op spin-off, Nightreign, chickensandwich420 devised a unique challenge: defeating Messmer, a notoriously difficult boss from the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC, every day. The twist? He uses a different weapon each time, aiming for a flawless, no-hit victory on NG+7.
This ambitious undertaking began on December 16, 2024. Initially planning a broader FromSoftware boss challenge, he opted for this focused approach due to his university studies. Messmer's infamy—requiring 30 to 150 attempts for many players, even with optimal gear—highlights the magnitude of chickensandwich420's commitment.
A June deadline looms: if Nightreign doesn't release by then, the challenge expands to other games. This sets a potential limit of over 160 Messmer battles. At the time of writing, he's reached day 23.
Elden Ring: Nightreign, announced at The Game Awards 2024, is a standalone, three-player co-op adventure set within the Elden Ring universe. While a 2025 release is anticipated, FromSoftware's track record suggests potential delays.
