"Ex-Rockstar Vet Urges GTA 4 Remaster: 'Niko Remains Top GTA Protagonist'"

A former Rockstar veteran has weighed in on the swirling rumors about a potential re-release of GTA 4 for the latest generation of consoles, suggesting that the game deserves a remaster.

The rumor mill started churning after Tez2, a well-known figure in the GTA community for leaking Rockstar information, posted about a possible GTA 4 port for modern systems that might be released this year. Tez2's speculation was linked to Rockstar's recent decision to shut down a GTA 5 Liberty City Mod, hinting at the studio's plans.

However, it's important to note that Rockstar itself has not confirmed any plans for a GTA 4 re-release. Given their current focus on GTA 6, a remaster of GTA 4 would be quite unexpected.

Every Celebrity in GTA 4

"It's a great game and there have been a number of successful remasters recently," Vermeij noted, possibly alluding to popular remasters like The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion.

In another post, Vermeij expressed his desire to see the game updated, praising Niko Bellic as the best protagonist in the GTA series.

Regarding the technical aspects of a potential remaster, Vermeij suggested that Rockstar might port GTA 4 to the latest version of their Rage engine.

PlayAgain, it's crucial to emphasize that Rockstar has not officially announced any plans for a GTA 4 remaster. Considering the monumental effort being put into GTA 6, tackling a GTA 4 remaster simultaneously might stretch even Rockstar's resources too thin.

Rockstar could potentially outsource the project to another studio, similar to what they did with the Red Dead Redemption port. However, the timing seems off, especially with GTA 6 slated for a fall 2025 release. Launching a GTA 4 remaster in the same window as GTA 6 could split the audience's attention away from the main event.

Shifting focus to Liberty City, some fans speculate that this iconic GTA setting, inspired by New York City and featured in GTA 4 and GTA: Chinatown Wars, might make an appearance in GTA 6, either at launch or as post-launch DLC. GTA 6 is set in the fictional state of Leonida, which includes Vice City, inspired by Miami.

As we eagerly await more news, there's plenty to explore about GTA 6, including detailed breakdowns, 70 new screenshots, and expert analysis on how the game will perform on the PS5 Pro.
