FFXIV Mobile Version Listed in China's Lineup of Approved Games

A recent report from Niko Partners, a video game market research firm, suggests a mobile Final Fantasy XIV game is in development by Tencent and Square Enix for the Chinese market. This follows earlier, unconfirmed reports of such a collaboration.

Unconfirmed FFXIV Mobile Game

Niko Partners' report lists 15 games approved by China's National Press and Publication Administration (NPPA). Among them is a mobile version of Final Fantasy XIV, reportedly developed by Tencent. Other notable titles on the list include mobile and PC versions of Rainbow Six, and mobile games based on Marvel Snap, Marvel Rivals, and Dynasty Warriors 8.

While neither Tencent nor Square Enix have officially confirmed the project, industry speculation points to a standalone mobile MMORPG, distinct from the PC version. Analyst Daniel Ahmad of Niko Partners highlighted this on X (formerly Twitter), emphasizing that the information stems primarily from industry sources.

This potential partnership aligns with Square Enix's stated May announcement of a multiplatform strategy for key titles like Final Fantasy. Given Tencent's significant presence in the mobile gaming market, this collaboration would represent a key step in Square Enix's expansion. However, official confirmation remains pending.
