At Droid Gamers, we often receive a wide variety of gadgets to review, but a projector is a fresh addition to our lineup. The Formovie Episode One, designed to stream mobile games on a larger screen, piqued our interest as a fitting piece of technology to explore.
Aimed at those on a tighter budget, the Episode One delivers on its promise of affordability, offering a compelling option for cost-conscious consumers despite some minor drawbacks.
Upon unboxing, you'll find the projector itself, a remote (batteries not included), a power cable, and a manual. While it may not have the robust feel of pricier models, its lighter weight—coming in at just three pounds—makes it remarkably portable, perfect for taking on the go.
However, those needing multiple connectivity options might find the port selection limited, with only one USB-A port, one HDMI port, and a single audio jack. This is typical for a device in this price range and should suffice for most users' needs.
Performance-wise, the Episode One holds its own for its cost. With 150 ISO lumens, it isn't the brightest or most powerful laser-based projector available. While it struggled in direct sunlight during our tests, it performed admirably in darker settings, as expected.
We found that it displayed movies, TV shows, and streamed games clearly. For optimal image quality, the projector should be positioned at least 10 feet away from the screen. The sound output, while tolerable, is somewhat tinny due to the built-in speaker. For a better audio experience, pairing it with an external speaker is recommended.
The user interface of the Episode One stands out as user-friendly and straightforward, making it easier to set up and navigate compared to some more expensive models we've encountered.
Overall, the Formovie Episode One serves as an excellent entry point into the world of projectors. While it may not excel in any single area, it's a reliable all-rounder that should meet the needs of most casual users.
