In a surprising move, Playground Games has announced that the acclaimed racing game, Forza Horizon 5, is set to make its way to the PlayStation 5 this spring. This follows a trend of Xbox exclusives expanding to other platforms, with titles like Sea of Thieves and Indiana Jones and the Great Circle also making the leap to PlayStation.
The PlayStation 5 edition of Forza Horizon 5 has been crafted by Panic Button in collaboration with Turn 10 Studios and Playground Games. Players on PS5 can expect the same rich content available on Xbox and PC, including Car Packs, as well as the popular Hot Wheels and Rally Adventure expansions.
This announcement aligns with Xbox's increasing interest in broadening its game availability across non-Xbox platforms, such as PlayStation and the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2. Xbox executive Phil Spencer has publicly expressed support for expanding to the Switch 2, signaling a strategic shift in Microsoft's gaming approach.Recent financial reports from Microsoft indicate that while Indiana Jones and the Great Circle attracted 4 million players and Game Pass on PC saw a 30% growth, contributing to a 2% increase in services revenue, overall gaming revenue declined, with console sales plummeting nearly 30%. These figures suggest that Xbox might be motivated to focus more on Game Pass and extend its game library to additional hardware platforms.
Forza Horizon 5 continues the legacy of the open-world racing series, offering a more arcade-like experience compared to its simulation-focused counterpart, Forza Motorsport.
