Following its feature in yesterday's new Grand Theft Auto 6 trailer, The Pointer Sisters' "Hot Together" has experienced an unprecedented surge in Spotify streams.
Global Spotify streams for the 1986 track exploded by an incredible 182,000% in just the two hours after the trailer's debut. Spotify's numbers appear not to have updated since yesterday, as "Hot Together" still shows just over 250,000 streams, though that figure is expected to change dramatically soon.
"Grand Theft Auto cuts through popular culture like almost nothing else," said Sulinna Ong, Spotify's Global Head of Editorial, in a statement. "Music has been central to the franchise from the start, so it's fantastic to see both new and long-time fans engaging with such an iconic song in this way."
It has now been 24 hours since Rockstar Games unveiled its newest look at GTA 6, with the trailer itself amassing an astonishing 77.7 million views on YouTube at the time of writing. The newfound success of "Hot Together" is remarkable, yet it's hardly surprising. When Rockstar's first trailer dropped in late 2023, the featured song, Tom Petty's "Love Is A Long Road," also saw a similarly massive spike in Spotify streams. Its popularity sparked such interest among gamers that many began crafting theories about its potential connection to GTA 6's story—though similar creative speculation hasn't emerged for "Hot Together" just yet.
Rockstar is providing eager fans with plenty of great music to enjoy while they await the (recently delayed) GTA 6 release date of May 26, 2026. In the meantime, you can catch up on some of the best fan theories for Trailer 2 we've seen so far, plus our rundown of 89 details Rockstar hidden within the video.
