GTA 6 Trailer 2 Release Date: Take-Two Boss Advocates for Proximity to Launch

By EthanMay 13,2025

It might be some time before we see the release of the second trailer for Grand Theft Auto 6, as recent comments from the head of Rockstar's parent company suggest a preference for releasing marketing materials close to the actual game launch. Rockstar unveiled the first trailer for GTA 6 in December 2023, which achieved record-breaking viewership, but fans have been left without any new assets since then. This 15-month wait has spurred a flurry of increasingly elaborate conspiracy theories about the timing of the second trailer's release, from counting the holes in Lucia's cell door to analyzing bullet holes in cars from the first trailer and even scrutinizing license plates. The most notable theory, the ongoing "moon watch," accurately predicted the announcement date for the first trailer but was later debunked as a hint for the second trailer's release.

So, when will we see GTA 6 Trailer 2? It remains a mystery, but insights from Take-Two's CEO Strauss Zelnick indicate that fans might have to wait until much closer to the game's expected release date in fall 2025. In a recent Bloomberg interview, Zelnick explained the strategy behind keeping GTA 6's release date under wraps: "The anticipation for that title may be the greatest anticipation I've ever seen for an entertainment property... We want to maintain the anticipation and the excitement... The better thing to do is to provide marketing materials relatively close to the release window to create that excitement on the one hand and balance the excitement with unmet anticipation."

Zelnick's comments align with what many fans and media have speculated, and former Rockstar developers like Mike York have supported this view. York, an ex-animator who worked on Grand Theft Auto 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2, shared on his YouTube channel that Rockstar is deliberately fueling these conspiracy theories. He believes that by staying silent, Rockstar creates allure and mystery, encouraging fans to engage and discuss the game without the company needing to release any new information. This tactic, according to York, is a brilliant marketing strategy that keeps the community buzzing and eagerly anticipating the next reveal.

While fans eagerly await more information, it's worth considering Zelnick's hint that the second trailer might not be released until closer to the game's launch, potentially half a year before the fall 2025 release. In the meantime, keep an eye on IGN's coverage, which includes insights from an ex-Rockstar developer about potential delays until May 2025, Zelnick's thoughts on the future of GTA Online once GTA 6 is out, and expert opinions on whether the PS5 Pro can run GTA 6 at 60 frames per second.
