Hollow Knight: Silksong Steam Update Hints at 2025 Release

By MadisonJun 18,2025

Fresh off the back of a subtle nod from Microsoft in an official Xbox post, speculation around *Hollow Knight: Silksong* has reignited. Backend updates to the game’s Steam page have only intensified rumors that a re-reveal—and possibly even a release date—is just around the corner.

Observed across social media platforms like Reddit, Discord, and beyond, the Steam metadata for *Hollow Knight: Silksong* was modified on March 24. According to records on SteamDB, these changes include the addition of GeForce Now opt-in support, updated assets, and notably, a legal copyright line now listing *Hollow Knight* as “Team Cherry 2025” instead of “2019.”

All signs point toward a potential update or reveal in the near future—possibly even during Nintendo’s upcoming Switch 2 Direct event on April 2. If so, fans may not have much longer to wait.

Six years have passed since the initial announcement of Hollow Knight: Silksong. While there have been occasional hints over the years, long silences from Team Cherry have left fans eager for more. January 2025, however, brought some unusual activity on X (formerly Twitter) from one of the developers, sparking widespread theories about a possible reveal during the Switch 2 Direct—and potentially even a launch window exclusive on Nintendo’s new console.

Originally announced alongside a confirmed lineup of platforms—Windows, Mac, Linux, and Nintendo Switch—Silksong also became a top candidate for inclusion in Xbox Game Pass following Microsoft’s publishing deal with Team Cherry to bring it to the service at launch.

Back in June 2022, Microsoft showcased *Hollow Knight: Silksong* during its Xbox & Bethesda Showcase, stating that all revealed titles would be playable within the next year. That implied a 2023 release—but by May 2023, Team Cherry officially delayed the game beyond the first half of the year, promising further updates closer to completion. At the time, Matthew Griffin, Team Cherry’s marketing and publishing lead, noted: “We had planned to release in the first half of 2023, but development is still continuing. We're excited by how the game is shaping up, and it's gotten quite big, so we want to take the time to make the game as good as we can.”

As the sequel to the 2017 indie masterpiece *Hollow Knight*, which earned universal acclaim, expectations for *Silksong* couldn’t be higher. The game remains one of the most wishlisted titles on Steam. In IGN’s original *Hollow Knight* review, we praised its immersive world, saying: “The world of Hallownest is compelling and rich, full of story that’s left for you to discover on your own, and built with branching paths that offer an absurd amount of choice in how you go about discovering it. With such a high density of secrets to find and fun, challenging enemies to face, it’s worth spending every moment you can in Hollow Knight.”
