Industry Analyst Predicts Decline in Star Wars Outlaws' Sales

By AndrewMay 07,2025

The launch of Star Wars Outlaws was highly anticipated as a pivotal moment for Ubisoft, with the company banking on it to bolster its financial standing. Despite receiving positive feedback from critics, the game has fallen short of sales expectations, resulting in a notable decline in Ubisoft's share price last week.

Ubisoft is pinning its hopes on Star Wars Outlaws and the upcoming Assassin’s Creed Shadows (AC Shadows) to drive long-term value. In its first-quarter 2024-25 sales report, Ubisoft underscored its commitment to these titles, aiming to leverage them to enhance the company's financial outlook. The report also highlighted a 15% growth in session days across consoles and PC, primarily driven by Games-as-a-Service, with monthly active users (MAUs) reaching 38 million, a 7% increase year-on-year.

Sales for Star Wars Outlaws have been described as "sluggish." According to a report by Reuters, J.P. Morgan analyst Daniel Kerven noted that the game has "struggled to meet our sales expectations despite positive critical reviews." Kerven has revised his sales projections for Star Wars Outlaws down from 7.5 million units to 5.5 million units through March 2025.

Following the game's release on August 30, Ubisoft's shares experienced a second consecutive day of decline on September 3, dropping by 5.1% on Monday and an additional 2.4% by Tuesday morning. This downturn has brought the company's share price to its lowest levels since 2015, contributing to a more than 30% decline since the beginning of the year.

Despite generally favorable reviews from critics, Star Wars Outlaws has not connected as expected with the gaming community, evidenced by its user score of just 4.5 out of 10 on Metacritic. In contrast, Game8 has rated Star Wars Outlaws at 90/100, praising it as "an exceptional game that does justice to the Star Wars franchise."
