Jason Momoa shaves beard for Dune 3 role

A New Look for an Old Character

Jason Momoa is transforming himself for his return to the Dune franchise - one razor stroke at a time. The actor documented his dramatic beard shave in preparation for filming Dune 3, proving his commitment to director Denis Villeneuve's vision.

"This one's for you, Denis," Momoa said while trimming his signature facial hair in the candid video. The Hawaiian native, who hadn't gone clean-shaven in six years, wasn't exactly thrilled with the results. "Holy hell! I can't stand this look," he griped as the razor did its work.

A Striking Transformation

Fans accustomed to Momoa's rugged appearance as Aquaman might do a double-take seeing him without his trademark beard and flowing locks. But this isn't actually unexplored territory - the actor sported a similar clean-cut look as Duncan Idaho in Villeneuve's first Dune adaptation.

After sitting out Dune: Part Two, Momoa will reunite with his on-screen family - including his real-life son Nakoa Wolf-Momoa, who's making his acting debut as Leto II, the son of Paul Atreides (Timothée Chalamet) and Chani (Zendaya).

A Father's Pride

The proud dad recently opened up about his teenager stepping into the spotlight. "He's about to get a serious reality check," Momoa told Extra with a grin. "First real job and all. But he's handling everything himself - didn't want my help, and honestly? He's crushing it."

Momoa's admiration shone through as he compared their early careers: "Every parent dreams their kid will surpass them, and damn if he isn't already. At his age? No way I could've held my own with Villeneuve like he's doing. Me? I was just running slow-mo on beaches at 19. This kid's directing meetings with cinematic legends at 16."

As Dune: Part Three prepares for its December 2026 release, Momoa's schedule stays packed - he'll next appear as the chaotic antihero Lobo in DC's upcoming Supergirl film.
