Keanu Reeves has delivered the most promising update yet on Constantine 2, confirming the project is now ready for script development.
John Constantine, an occult detective and exorcist from DC Comics, was brought to life by Reeves in the 2005 live-action film following his success in The Matrix. The movie became a cult classic, and for the past two decades, fans—and Reeves himself—have eagerly called for a sequel.
Now, it appears Constantine 2 has a real chance of moving forward after Reeves confirmed a recent pitch meeting with DC Studios.
“We’ve been trying to get this film made for over ten years, and we just put together a story and pitched it to DC Studios—they liked it,” Reeves told Inverse. “So now we’re moving forward with writing a script.”

This is a positive step, but it’s important to note that DC Studios co-heads James Gunn and Peter Safran have not yet greenlit Constantine 2. The film is not part of the official DCU reboot plans, nor has it been mentioned by Gunn or Safran as a potential project—so its future remains uncertain.
Still, Reeves hinted that if the sequel moves ahead, it will take place in "the same world" as the original film. "We’re staying true to that vision,” he said, adding with a laugh, “John Constantine will be put through even more torment."
Reeves’ update follows earlier comments from producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura, who revealed in September that Constantine 2 had a completed script—but he was hesitant to read it.
In an interview with ComicBook, di Bonaventura shared that the Constantine 2 script was sitting in his inbox. "Honestly, it's there right now," he said. "I'm almost afraid to open it—I want it to be so good. I’ll probably read it on my next flight."
