Should You Give Keipo the Leviathan Heart in Avowed?

By RyanApr 18,2025

In the *Avowed* side mission "Heart of Valor," players face a crucial decision regarding Keipo and the Leviathan Heart. The quest unfolds with Chiko discovering that their uncle, Keipo, plans to use the heart to end his life due to the Dreamscourge. Further investigation reveals that Keipo's narrative about the Leviathan was partially a cover for the truth about his partner Umpara's death, adding layers of complexity to the choices players must make.

The pivotal choice lies in whether to hand over the Leviathan Heart to Keipo. This decision impacts the quest's outcome and the rewards you can obtain. Opting not to give Keipo the heart allows you to secure all available gear, provided you navigate the dialogue correctly. To maximize your rewards, ensure you've discovered and read Keipo's Weathered Journal, located by activating a button on the curved stone structure near the Leviathan Heart's discovery site.

To secure the Stormdancer armor set, select the following dialogue options when speaking to Chiko after the "I’m sorry my uncle is sick…" line:

  • “Uh…about that. He’s not just sick. It’s the Dreamscourge.”
  • “He wanted to die before he turned. He was trying to keep you safe.”
  • “There *is* one way. We just stopped him from doing it.”

Selecting the wrong option here will upset Chiko, causing them to leave and denying you the Stormdancer armor pieces.

To acquire all the available gear at the end of the "Heart of Valor" side quest—the Leviathan Heart, Umpara’s Spear, and the Stormdancer armor set—without revealing Keipo's secret to Thirdborn, follow these dialogue choices meticulously:

Talking to Keipo

  • “We need to talk. Now.”
  • “Come clean. Chiko told me you want to end your life.”
  • “We wouldn’t be having this conversation if you had the Dreamscourge.”
  • “I’m sorry. I can’t give you the heart.”
  • “I respect your choice. But I can’t be a part of it.”
  • “Listen. I…I know what happened to Umpara.”
  • “And? Why didn’t you tell the truth?”
  • “That’s why you really trapped the ruins. So no one would find out.”
  • “No. The truth would do more harm than good.”

Note that discussing Umpara's fate first will prevent you from obtaining Umpara's Spear. Only by addressing it last can you secure both the spear and the other rewards.

Talking to Chiko

  • “Don’t worry. It’s right here with me.”
  • “He wanted to take his own life with it. Chiko stepped in to prevent that.”
  • “Let me hold onto it. I’ll take it far away and keep it safe.”
  • “[Lie] No, that was all.”
  • “Uh…about that. He’s not just sick. It’s the Dreamscourge.”
  • “He wanted to die before he turned. He was trying to keep you safe.”
  • “There *is* one way. We just stopped him from doing it.”

If you give Keipo the Leviathan Heart and receive Umpara's Spear, you can still obtain the Stormdancer armor set from Chiko by revealing Keipo's Dreamscourge affliction and using the final two dialogue choices mentioned above. However, this will expose Keipo's secret to Tira Nui Hajime and Thirdborn, diminishing the settlement's hope and costing you the Leviathan Heart.

By adhering to the dialogue sequence outlined above, you can secure a powerful set of armor, a unique spear, the Leviathan Heart as a trinket, and maintain as much happiness as possible in this bittersweet scenario—without having to compromise on any rewards.
