Let the demon hunting begin. Netflix is bringing the iconic video game series Devil May Cry to life with an anime adaptation, and fans are in for a treat with the newly released trailer. What's even more thrilling is the posthumous appearance of the legendary voice actor Kevin Conroy, known for his iconic portrayal of Bruce Wayne and Batman in various animated projects.
In the series, Conroy lends his voice to a new character, VP Baines, who is introduced in the trailer's opening voiceover. Conroy's last acclaimed performance was in Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths: Part 3 in July 2024, and it's wonderful that fans will get another chance to hear his masterful work following his passing in November 2022 at the age of 66. Joining him in the cast are Scout Taylor-Compton as Mary, Hoon Lee as White Rabbit, Chris Coppola as Enzo, and Johnny Yong Bosch taking on the role of Dante.
The official synopsis from Netflix teases a gripping storyline: "Sinister forces are at play to open the portal between the human and demon realms. In the middle of it all is Dante, an orphaned demon-hunter-for-hire, unaware that the fate of both worlds hangs around his neck."
Adi Shankar, the showrunner for the series, brings his experience from executive producing films like the 2012 Judge Dredd reboot, Killing Them Softly, and The Voices. Shankar is also attached to an Assassin’s Creed adaptation, though its future remains uncertain since its announcement in 2017.
The animation will be handled by Studio Mir, the acclaimed South Korean studio behind The Legend of Korra and X-Men ‘97. Devil May Cry is set to premiere on Netflix on April 3, 2025, promising fans a thrilling new take on the beloved game franchise.
