It appears the much-anticipated Blade movie has finally met its end, draining all hopes of seeing Mahershala Ali portray the iconic Daywalker in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The film, which faced numerous challenges over the years, has now officially stalled, leaving fans disappointed and without a clear path forward.
Rapper and artist Flying Lotus recently took to X / Twitter to share his involvement with the project, revealing that he was signed on to compose music for Blade before it fell through. "I guess we are so far from it even being a possibility now but. Yeah I was signed on to write music for the new BLADE movie before it fell thru," he stated. Flying Lotus, who directed Shudder’s new sci-fi horror ASH, expressed doubts about the project's revival but acknowledged it would have been a fun endeavor.
Adding to the series of setbacks, renowned costume designer Ruth E. Carter confirmed on The John Campea Show that she was set to design costumes for Blade before the project disintegrated. Carter revealed that the film was intended to be set in the 1920s, a setting that promised unique and captivating costume and production designs.
Actor Delroy Lindo, who was also attached to star in the film alongside Ali, shared his disappointment with Entertainment Weekly. "When Marvel came to me, they seemed to be really interested in my input," he said. Lindo highlighted the inclusive approach and the excitement around the character development, but lamented that "for whatever reason, it just went off the rails."
Initially announced at San Diego Comic Con in 2019, Blade was slated for a November release this year if all had gone according to plan. The film saw multiple directors come and go, including Yann Demange and Bassam Tariq, yet none could steer the project to completion.

Despite the numerous setbacks, it's astonishing to recall that only six months have passed since Blade was removed from Marvel's release schedule in October 2024. No new release date has been confirmed since then. However, a month after the film's removal, MCU boss Kevin Feige reassured fans of the studio's commitment to the project. "We are committed to Blade. We love the character, we love Mahershala's take on him. And rest assured: whenever we change direction with a project, or are still figuring out how it fits into our schedule, we let the audience know. You're all up to date on what's happening," he told Omelete in November 2024. "But I can tell you that the character will indeed make it to the MCU."
