Excitement is building for the upcoming release of Mario Kart World, a Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive game set to launch alongside the new console on June 5. This open-world racing game brings the beloved Mushroom Kingdom to life in an unprecedented way, allowing players to explore its vast regions, characters, and vehicles in a free-roaming style. Fans can now preorder the game from various retailers, such as Walmart.

  • $499.99 at Best Buy

Choosing the Switch 2 bundle that includes Mario Kart World offers a $30 saving compared to buying the console and game separately. It's worth noting that the bundle includes a digital copy of the game, meaning you won't receive a physical cartridge or game box. If a physical copy is a must-have for you, consider spending the extra $30 for the standalone version.

Yes, the MSRP Is $79.99

When purchased alone, Mario Kart World is priced at $79.99, which is $10 more than the standard price for AAA PlayStation and Xbox games this generation. While it's disheartening to see game prices increase, it's understandable given the rising costs of game development. I'm hopeful that the expansive nature of Mario Kart World will justify the additional cost.

What Is Mario Kart World?

PlayMario Kart World is poised to be the most expansive Mario Kart game to date. It features an open-world format similar to the Forza Horizon series. In Grand Prix mode, you can drive from the end of one track directly to the start of another after finishing a race.

The game's tracks are dynamically affected by weather conditions and the time of day, influencing visibility and traction. Players can also venture off the main track at any time to explore "virtually everywhere," as stated by Nintendo. Each race accommodates 24 drivers, surpassing any previous Mario Kart game.

A new mode, Knockout Tour, challenges players to race across the open world, navigating through checkpoints with specific placement requirements. Falling behind at any checkpoint results in elimination from the race.

For a more relaxed experience, Free Roam mode allows players to drive anywhere in the world, team up with friends, and capture photos during their adventure.

More details on Mario Kart World will be revealed during the Nintendo Direct on April 17. In the meantime, check out our hands-on preview for more insights.
