Mark Hamill: Demi Moore's Thumbs Up After Pants Mishap at BAFTAs

By SamuelJun 26,2025

During the 2025 BAFTAs, *Star Wars* icon Mark Hamill experienced what he described as “the ultimate actor’s nightmare” — a wardrobe malfunction that nearly left him exposed on stage. While presenting the Best Film award to *Conclave*, Hamill’s trousers began slipping down as he approached the podium, creating an awkward yet oddly humorous moment. The incident didn’t go unnoticed, with none other than Demi Moore giving him a reassuring thumbs-up from the audience.

Appearing on *The Late Show With Stephen Colbert*, Hamill recounted the ordeal in vivid detail. He revealed that his pants had fit snugly during fittings back in California, but after some last-minute alterations before the event, things quickly went south. “He let them out four or five inches!” Hamill joked, explaining how his dresser managed to pin the trousers shut backstage. Unfortunately, as he walked on stage, the safety pin popped — and the pants started to fall.

“They were at my knees by the time I got to the podium,” Hamill admitted, describing how he desperately tried to maintain composure. Looking into the crowd for reassurance, he locked eyes with Demi Moore, who gave him a cheerful thumbs up. Ever the professional, Hamill chose not to acknowledge the mishap, sticking strictly to the teleprompter and hoping the audience would buy into his Jedi mind trick: “You did not see my pants fall down. It's all an illusion.”

While the podium helped hide the issue from most viewers, those seated to the side had quite the view. Despite the embarrassment, Hamill handled it with humor, even ensuring the audience on *Colbert* that there would be no repeat performance: “Believe me, my pants are very secure tonight.”

In unrelated news, Hamill confirmed that he has no plans to reprise his role as Luke Skywalker in any future *Star Wars* projects. According to the actor, it’s time for the franchise to look ahead and introduce new characters rather than relying on legacy figures from the past.
