Hot on the heels of announcing 26 additional cast members for Avengers: Doomsday, Marvel and Robert Downey Jr. have hinted that more surprises await.
Yesterday's extensive livestream revealed the initial roster joining Downey Jr. in the superhero epic while confirming production has begun. Among the standout announcements was Channing Tatum's return as fan-favorite X-Men character Gambit. View the complete Avengers: Doomsday cast here.
Notably absent from the announced lineup are several major MCU figures - Tom Holland's Spider-Man is missing, as is Chris Evans despite earlier reports suggesting his participation in either Avengers: Doomsday or Secret Wars. Evans later refuted these claims.
Other significant omissions include Hulk, Hawkeye, Nick Fury, and War Machine. The X-Men representation also lacks Deadpool, Wolverine, Storm, and Jean Grey.
While fans voiced disappointment over these absences, hope remains. In a post-reveal Instagram tease, Robert Downey Jr. - who will portray Doctor Doom after his iconic tenure as Iron Man - hinted at more announcements to come. "That's what u call a deep bench of talent," the actor remarked. "Actually it's more like a row, but an extra long one... That must be it.. right?"

Marvel appeared to confirm Downey Jr.'s tease in the comments section, stating: "There's always room for more." The Russo Brothers added cryptically: "It's time..." This makes clear Marvel has additional casting reveals planned. The question remains - which heroes and villains will join the massive ensemble?
Earlier this month, directing duo the Russo brothers described Avengers 5 and 6 as foundational projects ushering in MCU Phase 7. "We love villains who believe they're the heroes of their own story," Joe Russo explained. "That complexity creates compelling characters - especially when working with an actor of Robert's caliber."
Avengers: Doomsday arrives May 1, 2026, followed by Secret Wars in May 2027. Earlier MCU installments include Thunderbolts* (May 2025), Ironheart (June 2025), and Phase 6's launch with The Fantastic Four: First Steps in July 2025.
Marvel Studios has reserved three untitled 2028 releases (February 18, May 5, and November 10), with strong speculation suggesting the X-Men reboot may fill one of these slots.
