Mobile Legends Unveils New Esports World Cup Format

• Mobile Legends: Bang Bang is introducing a revamped format for its Mid Season Cup.
• This new competitive structure will make its debut at the Esports World Cup in 2025.
• Fans can anticipate surprising new matchups and the addition of a third-place decider match.

The Esports World Cup in Riyadh is a heavily funded tournament that has garnered significant attention from major game developers and publishers. A key participant is Moonton with its popular MOBA, Mobile Legends: Bang Bang, which has just revealed a major overhaul for its 2025 Mid Season Cup format. This update promises substantial prize pools alongside even greater competitive challenges.

The revised format introduces a third-place match for teams near the top, while a new drawing system is designed to create more unpredictable pairings, ensuring a wider variety of teams face off against each other. Fans will get their first look at this new system during the Mid Season Cup, scheduled from July 30th to August 2nd.

This format refresh signals several strategic shifts. The Esports World Cup has successfully attracted top-tier titles, but mid-season or off-season events often need to avoid clashing with established league schedules. To capture a larger audience, these competitions must offer uniquely compelling and high-stakes experiences.

A Strategic Move

Moonton has stated another key objective: to foster a more dynamic competitive landscape. The mobile esports scene is intensely crowded, and while MLBB currently holds a leading position, the company recognizes the importance of proactive innovation to secure its future.

With all this in mind, the Esports World Cup is positioning itself as a premier tournament, featuring massive prize pools—MLBB's alone totals $3 million—and the high expectations that come with them.
