The upcoming Monopoly movie from Lionsgate has secured John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein as its writers. These talented duo, who also directed Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, will bring their expertise to the screenplay adaptation of Hasbro's iconic board game. The film is set to be produced by Margot Robbie under her production company, LuckyChap.
In addition to their work on Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, Daley and Goldstein recently wrote and directed their original film, Mayday. Their writing credits also extend to blockbuster hits such as The Flash and Spider-Man: Homecoming, showcasing their versatility and skill in crafting engaging narratives.
The journey to bring Monopoly to the big screen has been long and winding. Discussions about a film adaptation date back to 2007 when Ridley Scott expressed interest in directing it. In 2011, Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski were tapped to write the script, but that project ultimately fizzled out. Another attempt in 2015 saw Lionsgate and Hasbro collaborating on a version penned by Andrew Niccol, followed by reports in 2019 of Kevin Hart and director Tim Story being involved.
However, none of these previous efforts have come to fruition. The recent acquisition of eOne by Lionsgate from Hasbro has reignited the project, giving fans hope that this new iteration, with Daley and Goldstein at the helm, will finally pass Go and make it to theaters.
