Nintendo Vows to Curb Switch 2 Scalpers

By NathanOct 27,2025

Nintendo confirms plans to prevent Switch 2 launch shortages and counter scalpers, stating: "We're taking proactive measures."

During its latest earnings briefing, Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa addressed concerns about avoiding the supply issues that plagued the original Switch's 2017 launch.

"We're implementing comprehensive strategies based on our past experiences dealing with scalpers," Furukawa told Nikkei (translated by VGC). "Our preparations are underway."

So what exactly are these preparatory measures? Primarily, it involves massive production volumes. Nintendo previously emphasized that sufficient manufacturing capacity remains crucial for combating scalpers.

The original Switch faced severe shortages upon its March 2017 debut, enabling scalpers to sell units at premium prices. However, Furukawa assured in July 2024 that the Switch 2 launch would differ significantly.

"Our fundamental anti-scalping strategy remains ensuring adequate production volumes, unchanged from last year's position," Furukawa stated.

"We're also evaluating additional region-specific countermeasures within legal boundaries.

"While semiconductor shortages previously hampered Switch production, components are now readily available. We anticipate no major supply constraints for the successor model."

Nintendo announced a Switch 2 Direct presentation for April 2nd alongside global Switch 2 demo events.

Addressing current Switch sales declines during February 4th, 2025 remarks, Furukawa dismissed suggestions that consumers are waiting for the Switch 2.

"We don't perceive significant purchase deferral effects," he noted. "For its eighth year, Switch performance remains stable though slightly below projections."

Furukawa confirmed ongoing Switch support post-Switch 2 launch "contingent on demand," with major 2025 releases including Pokémon Legends: Z-A and Metroid Prime 4: Beyond.
