Nintendo has officially announced the pricing for upgrading two popular Switch titles, Kirby and the Forgotten Land and Super Mario Party Jamboree, to their enhanced Switch 2 editions. The cost might come as a surprise to many fans, as both games exceed expectations with their price tags.
For context, upgrading The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom from the original Switch to the Switch 2 Edition costs $9.99 each. However, Kirby and the Forgotten Land and Super Mario Party Jamboree are priced significantly higher—over double the amount at $19.99 each.
Upgraded Features
The Nintendo Switch 2 Enhanced Edition of Breath of the Wild introduces improved visuals and performance, along with achievements and support for the new "Zelda Notes" feature within the Nintendo Switch Online app. While existing owners won’t receive these perks automatically, they can purchase an upgrade pack for $10 to access them.
Meanwhile, the Switch 2 Edition of Kirby and the Forgotten Land offers new story content in its Star-Crossed World. Super Mario Party Jamboree gets a complete makeover with the addition of Jamboree TV, which leverages the Joy-Con 2 mouse controls, Switch 2 microphone, and a separate USB-C camera. In addition to these innovations, both games benefit from upgraded resolution (up to 1440p in TV mode), improved frame rates, new minigames, and enhanced online functionality.
Pricing Breakdown
While the U.S. eShop hasn’t yet listed official prices, the UK Nintendo eShop indicates that the Kirby and the Forgotten Land upgrade will retail for £16.99 / €19.99. Similarly, the Super Mario Party Jamboree upgrade package, including Jamboree TV, is priced identically. Based on these figures, it’s likely the U.S. price will align closely, at $19.99.
This pricing decision may reflect the premium nature of the Switch 2 Editions, especially considering that the base games (Kirby and The Forgotten Land and Super Mario Party Jamboree) are priced at $59.99 each, while their enhanced editions cost $79.99. For those opting to upgrade rather than purchasing the full version, the $19.99 fee seems steep compared to the $9.99 charge for Zelda titles.
Existing Offers
It’s worth noting that Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom upgrade packs are included at no additional cost for Nintendo Switch Online and Expansion Pack subscribers. Unfortunately, no such deal exists for Kirby or Super Mario Party Jamboree upgrades.
Pre-Orders and Demand
Pre-orders for the Nintendo Switch 2 launched today, April 24, at $449.99. Despite the high price point, demand has been overwhelming, leading Nintendo to issue a notice to U.S. customers who placed orders through the My Nintendo Store, stating that delivery dates are not guaranteed due to unprecedented demand.
