So, what can fans expect from this Nintendo Direct? Despite the upcoming launch of the Switch 2, Nintendo continues to support the current-generation console with a strong lineup of titles. The Nintendo Switch has sold an impressive 150.86 million units worldwide, making it one of the best-selling consoles of all time. With such a massive installed base, developers and publishers—including Nintendo itself—are keen to deliver content for the platform even as the next generation begins.
Anticipated Switch releases still on the horizon for 2025 include Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, Professor Layton and the New World of Steam, and Pokémon Legends: Z-A. Additionally, Hollow Knight: Silksong, first announced six years ago, remains set to launch on the Nintendo Switch alongside PC platforms (Windows, Mac, Linux). Since the Switch 2 will support backward compatibility, these titles are expected to run on both the original Switch and its successor.
This week’s Nintendo Direct may serve as a celebratory send-off for the Switch, eight years after its initial release, showcasing Nintendo’s final wave of exclusive content before shifting focus to the next generation. However, with Nintendo’s history of surprises, there’s always a chance for unexpected announcements.
