"Nintendo Switch 2 Image Confirms C Button on Joy-Con"

By AlexisMay 16,2025

Nintendo has officially confirmed that the mysterious new button on the Nintendo Switch 2's Joy-Con is indeed the C button, putting an end to the speculation that had been swirling around it. This confirmation comes courtesy of the newly released Nintendo Today! app, where a close look at the app's promotional images clearly shows the letter 'C' on the button.

The C button was first revealed earlier this year alongside the announcement of the Switch 2, but at that time, the images did not include any letter on the button. Rumors had suggested it might be called the "C" button, and those rumors have now been confirmed.

Speculation about the purpose of this new button has been rife. Some enthusiasts believe it could be related to "casting" the Switch 2 to a TV wirelessly or perhaps for screen sharing. Others have speculated that it might change the Joy-Con's functionality, such as switching it into a mouse mode. There's also talk that it might be connected to new group or voice chat features.

PlayNintendo has scheduled a Switch 2 Direct for April 2, where we hope to learn more about the C button and other features. Until then, here's what we know for sure:

  • Nintendo Switch 2 is set to launch in 2025, likely not before June based on the hands-on event schedule.
  • The Switch 2 is larger than the original, featuring larger Joy-Con that appear to double as a mouse.
  • It includes two USB-C ports, one at the top and one at the bottom, unlike the original Switch which had only one.
  • The Switch 2 is backward compatible, able to play both physical and digital games from the original Switch, as well as exclusive Switch 2 titles. However, some original Switch games may not be fully supported or compatible.
  • A new Mario Kart game is in development for the Nintendo Switch 2.

Meanwhile, Nintendo recently held a Direct focused on the original Switch, during which they announced the Nintendo Today! app. Video game legend Shigeru Miyamoto revealed this new app as a last-minute surprise during the showcase. The Nintendo Today! app is designed to be a comprehensive hub for Nintendo fans, offering a daily calendar and news updates to keep players informed in real-time.

Miyamoto highlighted that following the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 Direct, fans can use the app to stay updated on all the latest news, with new information being released daily.
