"Nintendo Switch 2: Joy-Con Mouse Controls for Home Menu Navigation"

By BenjaminJun 10,2025

Nintendo has officially confirmed that players will be able to use the Switch 2 Joy-Con mouse controls directly on the Home screen.

Since the reveal of the Nintendo Switch 2, gamers have been eagerly discussing the functionality of the new Joy-Con’s mouse mode. Last month brought official confirmation: the Joy-Con supports “mouse mode,” allowing users to glide the controllers across surfaces and utilize the analog sticks to mimic left-click and right-click actions, much like a traditional mouse. What's more, two Joy-Con can be used simultaneously in mouse mode—one in each hand—or mix one in standard mode and the other in mouse mode.

But there’s even more to uncover. As revealed through the Nintendo Today app and shared on X/Twitter, the Joy-Con mouse controls extend to navigating the Switch 2’s Home menu seamlessly.

According to Nintendo, "If you place the Joy-Con 2 controller on a surface with the attachment side facing down, a cursor will appear on screen." The company further explained, "To display the cursor, set the Joy-Con 2 on a table or flat surface and move it as shown."

They also noted, "While using mouse controls, you can tilt the control stick to scroll through menus. You can use mouse controls on the Home menu and in compatible software." When it's time to return to thumbstick navigation, simply rotate the Joy-Con 2 back into a horizontal position.

While the full list of mouse-compatible games remains under wraps, Nintendo has already demonstrated the feature working with titles such as Mario Party Jamboree, Metroid Prime 4, and the wheelchair basketball game Drag x Drive.

PlayThe highly anticipated Nintendo Switch 2 is scheduled to launch on June 5. Pre-orders began rolling out on April 24 at the expected price point of $449.99 — and demand was exactly what you'd anticipate. For more details, check out IGN's comprehensive Nintendo Switch 2 pre-order guide.
