Switch 2 Joy-Cons May Function as Computer Mice, Suggests Leaked Supply Chain Data

Recent circumstantial evidence hints at a novel feature for the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2: its Joy-Cons might double as computer mice. While the practicality of this mouse-like mode for game developers remains uncertain, it aligns with Nintendo's history of innovative controller experimentation.

The intriguing clue comes from Famiboards user LiC, who previously analyzed Vietnamese customs data linked to a suspected Nintendo parts supplier. This data source has fueled numerous Switch 2 rumors since mid-2024.

In early January 2025, LiC unearthed further details, revealing entries for polyethylene (PE) adhesive tape described as designed "for game console handles." Crucially, the shipping manifests labeled this tape as "mouse soles"—a term typically used for the bottom of computer mice. This suggests the Switch 2 Joy-Cons may incorporate mouse functionality.

Two "mouse sole" model numbers, LG7 and SML7, were referenced. These designations haven't been found in public component databases, indicating potentially new, unreleased products. The listed size, 90 x 90mm, seems large enough to cover the entire back of the Joy-Cons, likely requiring trimming during assembly.

Not Nintendo's First Rodeo: Lenovo Legion GO Precedent

While a mouse-like controller mode is consistent with Nintendo's experimental approach, it's not entirely unprecedented. The Lenovo Legion GO, released in 2023, already offers this functionality with its right controller, which transforms into a mouse when rotated sideways. Lenovo even includes a plastic slider to improve surface movement.

The Legion GO also features magnetic controller rails, another rumored Switch 2 feature. This similarity further strengthens the speculation surrounding Nintendo's upcoming hybrid console.
