Gamers let out a collective groan last week when the eagerly awaited Nintendo Switch 2 preorder date shifted from April 9 to an indefinite "who knows when?" This change came after President Trump's import tariffs caused financial markets to tumble, and the ripple effects have crossed borders. Nintendo Canada has confirmed that pre-orders in their region are also delayed, so forget about trying to secure one through your cousin in Winnipeg.
"Pre-orders for Nintendo Switch 2 in Canada will not start on April 9, 2025, to align with the timing of pre-orders to be determined in the U.S.," stated Nintendo of Canada to the Canadian tech site MobileSyrup.
"Nintendo will provide updated information at a later date. The launch date of June 5, 2025 remains unchanged."

This mirrors the announcement made to IGN by Nintendo of America on April 4, though the Canadian statement omits any specific mention of new tariffs.
Pre-orders for Nintendo Switch 2 in the U.S. will not start on April 9, 2025, as Nintendo assesses the potential impact of tariffs and evolving market conditions. Nintendo will update timing at a later date. The launch date of June 5, 2025 remains unchanged.
As the original pre-order date looms tomorrow, there's still no indication of when fans can begin their frantic browser refreshing and credit card checks, leaving gamers in a state of uncertainty and worried about potential price hikes from the initially announced $449.99.
In other countries, Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders have already started in the UK, with smaller retailers such as EE, GAME, and Smyths selling out rapidly. Scalpers have taken to eBay, offering pre-orders for £500 ($639) or more, far above the official retail price of £395.99 ($506).
