Nintendo Switch 2 Preorders Start in UK on Amazon

By SarahApr 27,2025

Amazon UK has opened preorders for the highly anticipated Nintendo Switch 2 to the general public, moving away from its previous invite-only system. You can secure your preorder today with the assurance that Amazon will only charge you once your console ships, providing a low-risk way to guarantee your purchase. Initially, some users saw a June 7th delivery estimate, but Amazon support has clarified this as an error, confirming the current plan for a launch day delivery on June 5th.

In contrast to the US, where preorders have faced delays due to tariff uncertainties, UK preorders are proceeding smoothly with no reported price increases or delays. Interestingly, some US users have successfully preordered from the UK using international shipping, though results may vary. Argos has restocked Switch 2 preorders today, April 8, in the UK, offering not only the console but also games and accessories. If you missed out previously, now is your chance to secure one without hassle.

Nintendo's official UK preorders also began today, with retailers like EE, GAME, and Smyths experiencing rapid sell-outs, leading to scalpers inflating prices on eBay. Currently, Amazon and Argos stand out as the most reliable options for securing a Switch 2 in the UK.

In our preview, Logan Plant from IGN shared his insights on the Nintendo Switch 2: "Switch 2 is a more premium product, reflected in its price. It's an enhanced version of an already great console, introducing new features like mouse controls. We're both set to buy it on launch day, and our hands-on time was impressive. However, I have concerns about whether the general public will embrace a $450 Nintendo console with an $80 Mario Kart game."

"This is a significant investment for a brand that traditionally caters to families and younger audiences, potentially limiting the Switch 2's market reach compared to its predecessor. Yet, for those willing to invest, the Switch 2 promises a superior hybrid console experience with notable improvements and exciting new features."

Play35% Off NSO Expansion Pack Memberships --------------------------------------

The exclusive addition of GameCube games to the Switch 2's online library is a standout feature. UK retailer ShopTo is currently offering a 35% discount on Nintendo Switch Online (NSO) Expansion Pack memberships, with an additional 5% off using the code SPRING at checkout. This deal is a great complement to your Switch 2 preorder.

While the base online subscription unlocks access to some Nintendo classics, the Expansion Pack is required for GameCube titles and is only available on a 12-month plan. Individual Online + Expansion Pack plans are available for £24.55, and Family Memberships for £43.55 with the promo code SPRING.

In a surprising move, Nintendo has postponed Switch 2 preorders in the United States, just days before they were due to start. This decision stems from concerns over tariffs and "evolving market conditions," a nod to the potential reinstatement of Trump-era import duties on electronics.

Originally set to begin on April 9, US preorders are now on hold indefinitely. Nintendo has reassured fans that the global release date for the Switch 2 remains June 5, 2025. The company's statement to IGN reads, "Pre-orders for Nintendo Switch 2 in the U.S. will not start April 9, 2025 in order to assess the potential impact of tariffs and evolving market conditions. Nintendo will update timing at a later date. The launch date of June 5, 2025 is unchanged."

This preorder freeze is exclusive to the US market, with UK preorders unaffected. Amazon UK continues to send out preorder invitations, while launch-day stock is dwindling at major outlets.

The Switch 2 is priced at $449.99 USD, and the Mario Kart World bundle, which includes the full game, is set at $499.99 USD. Mario Kart World will also be available separately for $79.99 USD.

PlaySwitch 2 UK Preorder News -------------------------

For those wary of paying upfront, Amazon remains the best choice in the UK. While retailers like Argos require immediate payment, Amazon delays charging until dispatch, making it a safer option for budget-conscious buyers. Amazon's preorder system operates on a ballot system, randomly selecting invitees.

At the Nintendo Store, access is limited to long-time Nintendo Switch Online subscribers with significant playtime and shared usage data. In contrast, Amazon's invite system is more accessible, giving everyone a fair chance regardless of their gaming history or membership status.

Currys and Smyths are expected to offer additional preorder opportunities through email alerts and queue systems, similar to their approach during the PS5 launch. This may result in a longer wait, but it's less frustrating for those who don't meet Nintendo's strict preorder criteria.
