Avowed builds upon the rich fantasy world of Eora first introduced in the Pillars of Eternity series. While the game offers a diverse array of races within the Kith category, the character creation options are somewhat limited. Here's a detailed look at all the playable races in Avowed.
Humans (Known In-Universe as Folk)
Humans, referred to as Folk in Avowed, are the most common race both in the game's world and within the character creator. As part of the Kith, which includes various sentient and civilized species, humans offer extensive customization options. With numerous presets, a skin tone slider, and a variety of hair textures, the character creator provides ample tools to help players craft a character that reflects their identity.
Elves
Elves are another selectable race in Avowed. Visually, they are very similar to humans, distinguished mainly by their unique facial structures and iconic long, pointed ears.
Godlikes
A third race option in Avowed is the Godlikes. Although all Envoys in the story are Godlike, players have the choice to display these unique features or not. Godlikes come with distinctive hair and facial features, ranging from subtle to surreal. At launch, players can choose from 14 different Godlike facial features and four Godlike hair options, available across all races and body types.
What Gender Options are Available in the Avowed Character Creator?
In Avowed, players can select from four body types: two masculine and two feminine, available for both Humans and Elves. Additionally, there are two voice options for each gender. Players can also choose their character's identifier, which determines the pronouns used for them—options include he, she, and they.
Several Races Present in Avowed Are Not Playable
While Avowed features a variety of Kith races as NPCs, such as Dwarves, semiaquatic Aumaua, and Orlans, these are not available for player characters. Although these races enrich the game's world, they cannot be selected during character creation. However, there's potential for Obsidian Entertainment to introduce more race options in future updates or DLCs.
