Sony has addressed the near day-long PlayStation Network (PSN) outage this weekend, citing an "operational issue" as the cause. While the company offered no specifics regarding the problem or preventative measures, PlayStation Plus subscribers will receive a five-day extension to their subscriptions as compensation.
The outage significantly impacted gameplay, with over a third of players unable to log in and others reporting server crashes. This incident highlights concerns among players who have criticized Sony's requirement of a PSN account even for single-player PC games.
This isn't the first major PSN disruption; a significant data breach in April 2011 resulted in over 20 days of connectivity issues. Although less severe, the recent outage has left PS5 users dissatisfied with Sony's limited communication regarding the incident.
